Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at pcom41@windstream.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.

All of our services are completely FREE of charge, including pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, and educational resources. We are here to support you without any financial burden.

The cost of an abortion depends on how far along you are in your pregnancy. In order to determine that, you will need an ultrasound to determine both the viability and dating of your pregnancy. You can schedule an appointment online here for a pregnancy test and ultrasound, as well as a consultation. All of our services are FREE of charge.

In Pennsylvania, women pursuing an abortion are required to observe a state-mandated 24-hour waiting period following a counseling session that covers alternatives to abortion, potential risks, and fetal development. For minors under 18, parental consent is necessary, and the procedure can only be performed by licensed medical professionals as stipulated by state law.

The "abortion pill" refers to two medications, mifepristone and misoprostol, which are used together to end a pregnancy. It’s also known as RU486 and is commonly referred to as a medical or chemical abortion.

A medical abortion typically involves three steps. First, a sonogram is required to determine the pregnancy’s stage and confirm its viability. You can schedule a free sonogram appointment online.

If you qualify for a medical abortion, you’ll take mifepristone right away. This medication blocks progesterone, a hormone needed for the pregnancy to grow, halting its development.

Then, within 24 to 48 hours, you will take misoprostol. This medication causes the pregnancy to be expelled from your uterus. There are various side effects, which will be discussed with you during your appointment. It’s important to have follow-up care to make sure there are no complications.

The abortion pill is not available over the counter and must be prescribed by a doctor. The FDA strongly advises against purchasing abortion medications online, as there’s a risk of receiving unapproved or unsafe drugs.

For more details about the abortion pill and other available options, please schedule an appointment at the Pregnancy Center of Meadville.

Yes, it’s possible. At-home tests can sometimes produce false negatives, especially if taken too early or not following the instructions precisely. We offer FREE pregnancy tests that can provide more accurate results.
